Four Popular Cosmetic Procedures In The United States

People have a lot of different views on cosmetic surgery and procedures.  Some people think that they’re great if it’ll help a person’s self esteem, others think that elective surgeries have become too common.  Regardless of what the popular opinion is, it’s obvious that people in this country are more than willing to get cosmetic procedures done.  According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, there were 1.6 million cosmetic surgical procedures done in 2012.  Non-surgical procedures are even more popular, there were over 2.5 million Botox procedures done in 2012 alone, and as both surgical and non-surgical procedures become less expensive those numbers are expected to increase even more.  The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery released data on what cosmetic procedures are the most popular among Americans.  If you’re thinking of getting any of these procedures done, know that only one of the hundreds of thousands of people that are getting the same procedure done.
Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation was only the second most popular surgical procedure in 2011, but in 2012 it managed to earn the number one spot.  Some people think that the slight increase has something to do with the increase of options for surgical implants people have.  Today’s women don’t just have to get silicone gel implants; she has a variety of options to choose from.  Different materials have been able to give augmented breasts a more natural look and feel, and that change in quality has probably helped increase the procedure’s popularity.
Liposuction has come a long way since modern liposuction techniques were pioneered in 1982.  Most procedures involve making a small puncture in the skin and using different techniques to loosen the fat before it’s suctioned out with a small tube.  The procedure is recommended to people that already at or near their idea weight, but have certain areas of fat that diet and exercise haven’t been able to get rid of.  Non-invasive procedures to remove fat have been invented, but nothing seems to get rid of unwanted fat as efficiently as liposuction.
Most people reading this may have never heard of otoplasty, but this cosmetic procedure grew in popularity in 2012.  Otoplasty is a cosmetic surgery that’s designed for ears.  Most patients who go in for otoplasty feel that their ears protrude out too much, and others do it to fix abnormally large or misshapen ears.  The surgery created a bit of controversy last year because some parents would take their children in for otoplasty surgery when they were as young as five or six.  Since the procedure is usually done for aesthetic reasons, some people believe that it would be better to receive the surgery when you’re older to ensure that you’re done growing.
Hair Restoration
Some people have always dreamed of having a thick head of healthy hair without having to use hair extensions or hairpieces.  Others had luxurious hair when they were young, but started to lose it as they aged.  By age 50, many American men and women begin to be affect by hair loss.  Hair restoration surgery has become popular again thanks to new surgical techniques that don’t require hair “plus” and large hair grafts.
