Personal hygiene tips: Why is personal hygiene important?
Personal hygiene is important because it helps to prevent the onset and spread of diseases such as diarrhea, food-borne illness and infections. Moreover, cleanliness is the socially accepted norm. Thus, even if personal hygiene weren’t good for your health (which of course it is), it would still be necessary to fit in and gain access to all the benefits, services, privileges and responsibilities that living in an organized society entails. More likely than not, personal hygiene as a social requirements stems precisely because of its health-related benefits. Hygiene may not exactly be what separates us from animals (some of which are very tidy), but as the popular aphorism goes, cleanliness is next to godliness.
Now, you may think you have good personal hygiene, but as Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta illustrated in Pulp Fiction, there is a huge difference between washing your hands and just getting them wet. The correct method to wash your hands is to wet them with clean running water while applying Skintegrity Antibacterial Soap, and then rubbing them together to make a lather and scrubbing them well, including the backs, between the fingers and under the nails. This should go on for at least 20 seconds, or however long it takes you to sing ‘happy birthday’ twice. Finally, rinse your hands well under running water, and dry them with a clean towel or air dry them.
This process should be repeated before, during, and after preparing food; before eating food; before and after caring for someone who is sick; before and after treating a cut or wound; after using the toilet; after changing diapers or cleaning up a child who has used the toilet; after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing; after touching an animal, animal feed, or animal waste; and after touching garbage.
More personal hygiene tips include showering daily (preferably with a Olivamine Antimicrobial Cleanser or a Convatec Aloe Vesta 2-n-1 Body Wash and Shampoo), brushing your teeth two times a day with Sensodyne Original Toothpaste by Invacare Supply Group and Medline Adult Toothbrushes, putting on deodorant, washing clothes after wearing them, trimming your hair every 4 to 8 weeks, clipping finger and toe nails on a regular basis. Furthermore, remember to cover your mouth every time you sneeze or cough in order to avoid spraying germs all around you. Also, keep in mind that your personal hygiene items are precisely that, personal; therefore, refrain to share them with other people.
