Sabra Cadabra: Hummus recalled over Listeria concerns

For its next trick, Sabra Dipping Co. will attempt to disappear 30,000 cases of its Classic Hummus  - or 360,000 containers – from store shelves after a routine, random sample collected at a retail location on March 30th, 2015 by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes (which begs the question; who would want to eat hummus to begin with?). Healthy individuals exposed to Listeria may only experience high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and other short-lived symptoms. However, the organism can lead to serious and even deadly infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Additionally, it can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.

The recall applies to 5 SKU’s of Classic Hummus sold across the United States, but it does not affect any other Sabra products yet. The recalled products are:

No illnesses associated with Classic Hummus have been reported yet. Customers who purchased any of the recalled products should either discard them or return them to the store for a full refund.
