This dressing for wound care has been shown to help in the prevention of pressure sores – when used with standard pressure ulcer prevention protocols. The Safetac technology helps reduce pain and trauma during dressing changes and seals the edges of the wound to prevent exudates from leaking onto the surrounding skin, thus decreasing maceration risk.

This product contains polyurethane foam which could be an issue for people allergic to that material. However, the potential for skin irritation and allergic reactions is low. A change in dressing regimen can lead to an initial increased level of exudates, which temporarily may warrant an increased change frequency.

Always clean the wound before applying a dressing for wound care. The dressing should overlap the wound bed by at least 2 cm onto the surrounding skin. Dry the surrounding skin. Remove the release films. Apply the adhering side to the wound. Do not stretch. Gently lift one corner and slowly peel back the dressing when removing it. Fixate only on the borders of the dressing, should extra fixation be needed. Mepilex Border can also be used on dry/necrotic wounds in combination with gels. In addition to that, Mepilex Border can be used as part of a prophylactic regimen to help prevent skin damage such as pressure ulcers. The dressing should be changed when there is exudate at the pad edges. In case of signs of clinical infection, consult a doctor for proper infection management. Do not use Mepilex Border at the same time as oxidizing agents like hypochlorite solutions or hydrogen peroxide. Mepilex should be stored in dry conditions below 95°F. Sterility is assured unless the inner package is damaged or opened before using. Do not re-sterilize.
